Social Security Payment Schedule November 2026: Dates
November 2026 Social Security payment dates, the Veterans Day shift to November 10, the early SSI payment on October 30, and the December double-SSI pattern.
November 2026 payment dates
November 2026 has two schedule changes, and both move payments earlier. One is caused by Veterans Day. The other is caused by November 1 falling on a Sunday. Here is the full month, based on the SSA 2026 payment calendar.
| Who you are | Normal rule | November 2026 payment date |
|---|---|---|
| Born on the 1st through the 10th | Second Wednesday | Tuesday, November 10, 2026 (moved from Veterans Day, November 11) |
| Born on the 11th through the 20th | Third Wednesday | Wednesday, November 18, 2026 |
| Born on the 21st through the 31st | Fourth Wednesday | Wednesday, November 25, 2026 |
| Started Social Security before May 1997, or receive Social Security and SSI | 3rd of the month | Tuesday, November 3, 2026 |
| SSI only | 1st of the month | Friday, October 30, 2026 (moved from Sunday, November 1) |

The Veterans Day shift: November 11 becomes November 10
Veterans Day is always November 11. In 2026 it falls on a Wednesday, and that Wednesday happens to be the second Wednesday of the month, the payment day for people born on the 1st through the 10th.
SSA’s rule, from its payment date FAQ, is that when a payment date “falls on a Saturday, Sunday or legal public holiday, benefits will be paid the business day before your due date.” The business day before Wednesday, November 11 is Tuesday, November 10. Veterans Day is on the OPM list of federal holidays, so the rule applies.
Two things to know about this shift:
- It is one day early, not an extra payment. Your December payment is Wednesday, December 9, a normal business day.
- It only affects the 1st–10th group. The November 18 and November 25 payments are unchanged.
The SSI shift: November 1 becomes October 30
SSI is paid on the 1st of the month. When the 1st is a weekend or holiday, SSA pays on the last business day before. The SSA blog puts it this way: “When the first day of the month falls on the weekend or a Federal holiday, you receive your SSI payment on the last business day before the first day of the month.”
November 1, 2026 is a Sunday. The last business day before it is Friday, October 30. So your November SSI payment arrives on October 30.
This creates a lopsided calendar for SSI recipients:
| Month | SSI payments received | Which month each covers |
|---|---|---|
| October 2026 | Thursday, October 1 and Friday, October 30 | October and November |
| November 2026 | None | (November was paid October 30) |
| December 2026 | Tuesday, December 1 and Thursday, December 31 | December and January 2027 |
| January 2027 | None | (January was paid December 31) |
Two months with two deposits, two months with none. The total over four months is the same four payments. Plan for the empty months so the late-October deposit is not spent before December.
Thanksgiving does not move anything
Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 26, 2026. The fourth-Wednesday payment is November 25, the day before. Since the payment date itself is not the holiday, it stays on November 25. Banks are open that Wednesday, so deposits post normally.
What this means for you
Example 1: Retiree born on the 8th, Social Security only. You are in the second-Wednesday group. Your November payment lands Tuesday, November 10. If you have automatic bill payments set for the 11th, they will still be covered because the money arrives a day earlier, not later. Your next payment is Wednesday, December 9 (2026 calendar).
Example 2: Couple who both started benefits in 1996. Because you started before May 1997, both of you are paid on the 3rd. November 3 is a Tuesday, so both payments arrive that day with no change. Then in December you get a bonus timing quirk: your January 2027 payment arrives Thursday, December 31, 2026, because January 3, 2027 is a Sunday (2027 calendar). That means two Social Security deposits in December and none in January. The December 31 deposit is the first one with the 2027 COLA.
Example 3: SSI recipient, no Social Security. Your November payment comes Friday, October 30. Nothing arrives in November. Your December payment comes Tuesday, December 1, and your January 2027 payment comes Thursday, December 31. If you rely on the monthly deposit to pay rent on the 1st, set aside the October 30 payment for December 1 bills and the December 31 payment for January bills.
The payment date calculator can confirm any of these dates.
The December pattern and the 2027 COLA
Every year, January 1 is a federal holiday, so the January SSI payment is always paid on the last business day of December. In 2026 that is Thursday, December 31.
This early payment is also the first payment at the new COLA rate. Last year’s SSA fact sheet stated it directly: “Increased SSI payments will begin with the December 31, 2025 payment.” The 2026 COLA was 2.8%, and the SSI federal payment standard rose from $967 to $994 a month for an individual and from $1,450 to $1,491 for a couple.
The 2027 COLA is expected to be announced in October 2026, after the September inflation numbers are released. Once SSA publishes it, the new SSI rate should appear in the December 31, 2026 payment and the new Social Security rate in the January 2027 Wednesday payments (January 13, 20 and 27). Read how the 2026 COLA changed benefits for the full list of amounts that change each January.
Which month the November payment covers
Social Security pays one month behind. The payment you receive in November 2026 is your benefit for October 2026, and the December payment covers November. This matters if a beneficiary dies: the payment for the month of death must be returned, so a death in November means the December payment is not kept, while the November payment (for October) is. It also explains why a COLA announced in October appears three months later, in the January payment, which covers December.
Why the Wednesday groups exist
SSA assigns Wednesday payment dates by birthday to anyone who filed for benefits in May 1997 or later. Spreading payments across three Wednesdays lets banks and SSA handle the volume. Your date is fixed by the birthday of the worker whose record the benefit is paid on. A widow collecting survivor benefits on her late husband’s record is paid according to his birthday, not hers, and a spouse collecting a spousal benefit follows the worker’s birthday too. If you are unsure whose birthday applies, the payment date calculator explains it, and your my Social Security account shows your scheduled date.
Medicare Part B and your November payment
Most people have their Medicare Part B premium deducted from their Social Security payment. The 2026 standard premium is $202.90 a month (CMS fact sheet), and that amount stays the same through your December payment. The 2027 premium has not been released; CMS usually announces it between late October and mid-November, and it takes effect with the January 2027 payment. See the 2026 Part B premium and IRMAA article for details.
What to do if your November payment is late
- Double-check the date. The most common November confusion is the 1st–10th group expecting money on the 11th. It was paid on the 10th.
- Wait three mailing days. The SSA calendar says: “If you don’t receive your payment on the expected date, please allow three additional mailing days before contacting Social Security.”
- Ask your bank. Confirm whether a deposit is pending. Some banks post federal deposits early in the morning; others post them late in the day.
- Log in to my Social Security. Your payment history and direct deposit details are there. If you changed banks recently, make sure SSA has the new account.
- Call 1-800-772-1213 or visit a local office after the three mailing days have passed.
